The HC-SR501 Passive Infrared (PIR) Sensor is the industry standard for detecting human or animal movement. It is the exact same technology used in commercial security systems and automated corridor lighting, making it an incredibly reliable addition to any DIY smart home project or intrusion alarm. This highly sensitive module works by detecting the infrared heat signatures emitted by living bodies moving across its field of view. When motion is detected, the sensor simply outputs a 3.3V high digital signal, which can be read instantly by an Arduino, ESP32, or NodeMCU.
